Patrick Cabahug braces for physical KCS defense come VisMin Finals

Patrick Cabahug and MJAS Zenith-Talisay have gotten some well-deserved rest after gaining an outright Finals berth in the 2021 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup-Visayas Leg.

And that rest is needed as the Aquastars take on the most imposing defense in the six-team league in KCS Computer Specialist-Mandaue.

Though the Aquastars have rest, KCS has momentum going as it just defeated ARQ Builders Lapu-Lapu last Wednesday, 74-64, in the win-or-go-home semis.

Cabahug knows that KCS will be a different team compared to the team they drubbed 77-57 back on April 13 and again on April 24, 81-73.

“Huwag lang kami mag-react sa physical defense nila. We just need to play as a team at executing our plays,” said Cabahug, who is averaging 13.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.

MJAS might be the league’s top dog but it’s KCS who owns two records in defense in the league.

KCS limited both Tubigon Bohol and Dumaguete to meager 50-point outings in the second round. Defense is definitely the patent of Mike Reyes’ team.

The Cebuano though can’t wait to face fellow vet Gryann Mendoza as it will be a match-up of two of the league’s top marksmen.

But he vowed to not deviate from the game plan set by coach Aldrin Morante even if the two figure in a shootout.

“Sobrang excited ako dun sa match-up na ‘yun,” he said.

“We will still play team offense and team defense — ‘yun ang strength namin eh.”
