A pioneer team coming from the Mindanao region is engaged for return in the next conference after a heartbreaking exit in the inaugural season of the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup, Misamis Oriental is hoping to compete on a next level.
Misamis Oriental ended last conference with 2-6 win/loss record after pulling out of the competition due to multiple injuries to players. Now, Misamis Oriental promised to field a more competitive team this conference.
In the recent episode of the interactive sports show Ato Ni Bai Sports Connect of the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup, Misamis Oriental is one of the featured teams there and talked plenty of topics about their team development and roster management.
One of their guests is their head coach Vis Valencia who will be the prime mentor of the Misamis Oriental squad. Valencia was the former head coach for Quezon City Capitals for 2 seasons of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) prior to his commitment to Misamis Oriental as the head coach.
“First of all, we started to build this team, and we see how competitive the league… and we focused on revamping this team.” Valencia shared about on what preparations they did prior entering the next conference.
He also added, “We should be 100% physically fit in the upcoming bubble… that team’s really runs well yun yung madalas nananalo and we are poking up that.”
Asked about the support of local government of Misamis Oriental, “First of all we are thankful to Gov. Bambi Emano, and of course to Atty. Saclot and also the rest of Misamis Oriental’s staff… to promote and showcase the athletes of Misamis Oriental,” Valencia added.
Another guest is the former San Sebastian Stag and PBA journey man Jason Ballesteros, who will be the new centerpiece of attraction for Misamis Oriental’s frontcourt. Ballesteros was also a former a Gilas member and was part of the first installment of the national team.
“Syempre mahirap kasi lamang yung mas bata tsaka dapat physically fit ka, and syempre dapat healthy.” he talked about on what preparations he went through.
And lastly, another player on Misamis Oriental is the former Mapua Cardinal Andrew “Andoy” Estrella who played for Quezon City and San Juan of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) prior entering to the recent draft, that went him selected as 41st pick by the Magnolia Hotshots, Estrella didn’t make a chance to be part of the Hotshots’ roster.
“Para sa akin kailangan mabuo namin yung chemistry namin at teamwork para maging maganda yung run namin, yun yung lagi sinasabi sa amin ni coach Vis.” he said.
Misamis Oriental is hungrier than ever and is now more ready for war.
