Home grown player Darell Shane Menina and ex-pro Paolo Hubalde combined forces in the fourth quarter to help lead the MJAS Zenith Talisay Aquastars to a 63-56 victory over the KCS Computer Specialist – Mandaue in Game 2 of the Chooks to Go Pilipinas Vismin Super Cup Visayas Leg Finals at Alcantara, Cebu. The duo scored 12 of the 22 points of Talisay in the fourth to break the game away from a 41-41 stand off at the end of the third.
Hubalde, a veteran of different leagues, finished the game with 11 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals was named as the Chooks to Go Player of the Game. Menina contributed with 15 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and issued 5 assists in their bounce back game after suffering their first loss of the season on Game 1, a one point defeat on Shaquille Imperial’s game winning three point shot.
After a 15-4 lead at the end of the first, the Aquastars lost their momentum and allowed the Specialists to make a run in the second quarter. Christopher Exciminiano and Rhaffy Octobre led the comeback for Mandaue as they narrow the deficit to one, 23-24 at the end of the first half.
It was a back and forth game in the second half with both teams showing their offensive and defensive plays and in game strategies until Hubalde and Menina took matters in their own hands in the fourth to help Talisay live another day and force a deciding Game 3.
Christopher Exciminiano led the Specialists with 14 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals while Octobre added 11. Gryann Mendoza also added 11 points in a losing effort.
Winner take all Game 3 will be held on May 9, Sunday at 6 PM at the Alcantara Civic Center, Alcantara, Cebu.
