Basilan BRT Peace Riders followed the veteran leadership of Dennis Daa to keep its immaculate record after beating home team Pagadian Explorers 82-76, on the third game of a triple header of Thursday games of Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup at Pagadian City.
Daa registered 18 points and 6 rebounds off the bench as he led the Peace Riders to their third straight victory to start the tournament. Nikko Panganiban and Junjie Hallare provided the support as they ended up with 15 points apiece.
It was a back and forth game between the two sides, with both teams countering every runs made by their opponents.
Judel Fuentes of the Explorers waxed hot in the first quarter as he scored 13 points to lead Pagadian to a slim lead at the end of first, 24-22.
Basilan continued to drag Pagadian to a tight see-saw battle as they are tied at the end of the first half with Fuentes leading Pagadian with 17 points while Panganiban had 10 points for Basilan.
Basilan came out firing in the third period when they outscored Pagadian 22-13 and ended the quarter on a nine point lead, 63-54 entering the fourth.
The Explorers tried their best to regain the lead in the fourth but the Peace Riders was steadier with better execution both offensively and defensively to seal the victory, 82-76.
Fuentes finished with 23 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists to lead Pagadian in a losing effort.
Basilan is now at solo leadership with 3-0 record while Pagadian fell to 2-2.
