ARQ-Lapu-Lapu City is the latest team included in the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup, which is expected to tip off on April 9.
The team, owned by businessman and sportsman Jason Arquisola, is expected to be a force in the league with a powerhouse roster led by Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) stars Eman Calo and Jason Melano. Also on the team are former pro Jojo Tangkay and ex-MPBL players Rino Berame, John Abad and Franz Arong.
ARQ-Lapu-Lapu City, though, will encounter plenty of opposition from other teams in the league such as KCS-Mandaue City, MJAS-Talisay City and Cebu City in the Visayas region.
Competing in the Mindanao region are Zamboanga City, the Pagadian City Explorers, Roxas-Zamboanga del Norte and Sindangan.
Talisay City is bringing in a core of Darrell Shane Menina, Patrick Jan Cabahug, Kevin Villafranca and Tristan Albina. Mandaue City, which will be coached by decorated head coach Mike Reyes, will have Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. MVP Shaquille Imperial and MPBL players Bernie Bregondo, Alfred Batino and Joseph Nalos.
According to the league’s secretary-general Chelito Caro, it is completing all the requirements to process its professional status with the Games and Amusements Board. (JNP)
